IN CINEMAS FROM 19 OCTOBER 2018
Expectant, Etienne moves to Paris from Lyon to study film direction at the Sorbonne. Thus he is separated from his girlfriend Lucie, but the boy promises to make contact with her regularly on Skype.
During his studies, Etienne meets Jean-Noël and Mathias, similar film enthusiasts who also came to the metropolis from smaller cities. New friends together discuss the film canon, read the texts of Flaubert and Pasolini, listen to Bach and Mahler.
Sympathetic extrovert Jean-Noël helps timid Etienne gain confidence. In turn, Mathias is withdrawn, restrained and mysterious, and he has a habit of disappearing for weeks. No one has ever seen any Mathias student movie. Etienne's anxiety about Mathiast increases when the protagonist accidentally discovers that a friend is connected with Annabelle, a young idealist and a flat-mate Etienne, in whom the boy secretly loves.
Jean-Paul Civeyrac talks about the first serious encounter of young people with art and ... life.
The story of young friends is Roman d'education in the best, classic edition, referring to Flaubert and Balzac. The original title "Mes provinciales" is a reference to the song "Les provinciales" ("Provinces") by Blaise Pascal.
